Working with students from preschool through college age — and adults of all backgrounds — Cynthia meets every learner exactly where they are and takes them somewhere they didn't know they could go.
Cynthia works across a full range of visual mediums — oil paint, acrylic, watercolor, chalk pastel, oil pastel, pencil, ink, crayon, photography, collage, graphic art, digital illustration, website design, puppets, stage design, mixed media, mosaic, sponge & stamp art, found object art, printmaking, paper mache, sculpture, charcoal, and more. Whatever the medium, the subject is always the same: the human story, told without apology.
She served as the visual art instructor at East Tennessee State University's Renaissance Camp and Creative Arts & Aftercare program for several years — bringing the same warmth and rigor to young artists that she brings to every stage she stands on.
Cynthia owned and operated Appalachian Mood Studio, her own art studio, and has led workshops and classes for students and communities in East Tennessee, Atlanta, Georgia, Los Angeles, California, and Cape Town, South Africa. Her teaching practice spans continents and age groups, always rooted in the belief that everyone has a story worth making visible.
